Addressing all aspects of daily life for people living in the UK with obesity it offers a unique service covering everything from clothes through surgery to friendship.

It brings together individuals and professionals in allowing them to have their say and share information and experiences. The site has evolved rapidly over the past two years and continues to expand its services.

Being overweight can be very isolating and Big Matters aims to help people interact with others in the same position and create a support network. Obesity is not limited by age, race or background. The coming months will see the continued expansion of information and services for young people in addition to its organic approach of reacting where possible to request from its visitors.

It actively encourages people to get in touch, be they two stone or twenty overweight, a voice for anyone with a weight problem in the UK and no doubt the coming year will be even busier as , for the present time, there is no end in site for the rise of obesity in the UK.

Launch of UK Based Obesity Support Community Forum

UK based obesity support and information website www.bigmatters.co.uk announces the launch of its Community Forum. Big Matters covers a variety of subjects around daily life for people who are living with a weight problem. It addresses a whole range of issues such as young people, clothing, diet, personal experiences, media requests, surgery and much more. Visitors to the site had expressed a need to be able to exchange ideas and feelings directly with others and so the Community has come to life.
Despite the fact that the UK has become aware of the obesity problem, people who are living with a weight problem daily often feel isolated and frustrated with the support available. Big Matters encourages input from individuals and professionals alike and the Community is just another step forward in trying to react to the many suggestions that they receive.

UK Obesity site celebrates its first successful year

www.bigmatters.co.uk was established in May 2004 to provide a unique service in allowing people within the UK who are living with obesity to have an opportunity of sharing experiences whilst at the same time offering the chance to find information about many aspects of daily life in one central place.

Whilst the problems of dealing with the rise in obesity in the UK are being discussed amongst professionals and governments the practical issues be they finding emotional support, clothing, health issues etc are a minefield on the internet.

Bigmatters has given the chance for this all to be brought together and for people to feel that they can be involved in the future and expansion of the site.

A spokesperson for Big Matters said “we have been absolutely delighted with the response we have had since the launch last year, we have heard from people throughout the UK, individuals and professionals alike. What has been made even clearer is that what is being done to help deal with obesity in the UK is nowhere near enough - emotional issues are not being addressed, health related problems are spiralling and people feel isolated.

Asking a nation to eat healthier and exercise more is not as straightforward as it sounds. If you want to get a nation active then provide NATIONWIDE incentives – It is very daunting to go swimming or embark on an exercise programme if you are overweight – classes should be affordable and geared specifically to people of all sizes.

We hope that the coming year will see more being implemented to make a real change. The issue of obesity cannot be underestimated, we have heard many tales of despair and great courage and we will continue our work in evolving bigmatters as a positive and informative focus for people of all ages throughout the UK.”

Launch of UK Based Obesity Support Site

May 10th 2004 marks the launching of the Big Matters website. www.bigmatters.co.uk.

A UK based website offering a whole spectrum of information, support and advice aimed specifically at people living with obesity but equally suitable for anyone with a weight problem as well as those happy to be living life as a bigger person but needing a centralised information source.

Whilst obesity is appreciated as a real problem in the UK and the authorities view the need for change, there can be a negative image and little support.

Obesity can have many different ‘knock on’ effects. This can be health, happiness, confidence or comfort. Big Matters is going to address all aspects of daily life not just weight loss alone. It includes health reports, clothing, helplines, fitness, personal experiences, diet and much more. It actively encourages people who live daily with a weight problem to comment and get involved and will evolve with their input.

With the rapid increase in childhood obesity Big Matters also wants to offer young people the chance to have their view put forward, the opportunity to get the support they need and to make informed decisions to work with their families towards a healthier future.

Big Matters welcomes input from doctors, specialists, support organisations, businesses and individuals alike, offering the chance for everyone to share knowledge and experiences. It is here to offer a centralised resource, a positive and practical view on living life as a bigger person and as a forum for those trying to tackle the rise in obesity within the UK to keep people informed.
